Rekha Thapa says she is not a Maoist, anymore

In an interview with the ‘Shukrabar’ weekly, actress Rekha Thapa has stated that she is not a CPN (Maoist) member. The statement has come after the party failed to get anticipated seats in the CA election.

Nepali actress rekha thapa speaks in welcome program of CPN Maoist

Rekha had joined the party in a highly publicized event before election. Maoist had also offered the actress a ticket in the election. But, she had to relinquish the ticket because of her failure to register herself as a voter. Rekha had also participated in some election rallies of the party.

Now, Rekha says that she didn’t know about the principles of the party at the time she joined it. It seems, she just wanted to join the biggest party. Now, at the time when the party is no longer biggest, she seem to be eying the bigger ones – Nepai Congress and UML.

A part of the interview:

No film artist to represent in the Constituent Assembly 2070

When the Constituent Assembly (CA) membership hopeful film directors Deepak Shrestha and Himgyap Lama couldn’t make it to the CPN (Maoist) list, there will be no film artists to represent in the current CA.

They were included in the preliminary list of CA members under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system. In the similar way, actor Bhuwan KC also couldn’t make it to the list of CPN (UML). Bhuwan has organized a press meet in protest of being rejected twice by the party.

Other film personalities who had tried their luck in the electoral system Uddhav Poudel and Remeshjung Rayamajhi had failed to win enough votes to win the election. Another hopeful, actress Rekha Thapa failed to participate in the election because of her failure to register herself in the voting list.

The only CA member related to Nepali film industry is Rambir Manandhar. Manandhar, the owner of Astha Narayan theater, had won the election under electoral voting system in CPN (UML) seat. Although actor/director Nir Shah might still be hopeful, his chance to be included in the remaining 26 seats in the CA is very slim.

Bhuwan KC became the victim of politics, for the second time

Despite of his desperate attempt, actor Bhuwan KC has failed to get a Constituent Assembly (CA) membership. In the final list of CPN (UML) candidates nominated as CA members under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system, Bhuwan’s name is missing.

A standing committee meeting, held at Gokarna Resort, has chosen the 84 PR members from the list of 335 names submitted to the Election Commission before the election. The party has become the second largest party after winning 91 seats under direct voting.

Bhuwan was selected to represent the party in Kathmandu Constituency no.1 but, was forced to withdraw in the last hours. Bidhya Neupane had replaced him in the election. At that time, he was assured the seat in PR. After the final list was made public, Bhuwan has become the victim, the second time.

Rekha Thapa congratulates the winners and says Maoists never loose

In a Facebook statement, actress Rekha Thapa has told that the UCPN (Maoist) party hasn’t lost. That was in response of a massive loss to the party in election all over Nepal. The election result is as surprising as the previous one in which the party had become the biggest party in the country.

In response to the initial results, UCPN (Maoist) had demanded the government to halt the vote counting. The party also withdrew it’s observers from the counting stations all over the country.

Rekha has urged the party to accept the verdicts of the people and accept the defeat now. She added, if there are proofs of conspiracies, they can be investigated to bring the truth out. But for now, a true win is to accept the defeat and support the constitution building process from the CA and outside.

Although Prachanda termed the election process "unexpected, against the people’s mandate and conspiratorial" the EU observers have stated that the election was fair in general.

Constituent Election, Vote Counting and Resulting Affected Nepali movies – No release this week

The political environment has adversely affected the Nepali movie industry. As the election result are being released, no Nepali movie is going to be released this week in theater.

Nepali film artists are also in a state of shock when the biggest party before election is seemingly the distinct third after Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), according the initial election result. Shocked Maoist have cried foul and have asked the counting to stop.

Prior to the election a number of film artists had joined political parties including Maoist, UML and Congress. Well known producer and Gopi Krishna theater owner Uddav Poudel is likely to loose in Kathmandu -4. Another producer, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi (NC candidate) has lost from Morang-8 to UML candidate. Ramesh Jung has produced ‘Nai Na Bhannu La’, ‘Malai Man Paryo’ and upcoming ‘Santrash’.

Actress Rekha Thapa, who was supposed to be contesting at Parsa 1 has asked the party to accept the defeat. It seems, Maoist are also having tough time in Parsa.
