Sex and Gender Discrimination in Nepal : Watch Video Online Free

This post is dedicated to sex discrimination in Nepal with a video about it. In Nepal, sex discriminatory attitude towards men and women have existed for generations. It is affecting the lives of both genders; male and female. Although the constitution of Nepal has granted both men and women equal rights, gender disparity still remains.

There are limited opportunities for female in every sector in Nepal. There is traditionally demand for men to participate in official work such as armed forces, police force etc. There is not any specific research on sex discrimination of Nepal. But most of research is mostly in favour of men over women. Due to a lack of objective research on gender discrimination against men in Nepal, it is perceived that it is only women who are suffering. But there are many men who are suffering from sex discrimination. The research on sex discrimination in Nepal often conducted is selectively sampled, where men are left out of the picture. Women of Nepal are perceived to be disadvantaged at work, and conclusions are drawn that their capabilities of women are often underestimated.

Here is a video of sex discrimination in Nepal. say, gender discrimination of Nepal. Watch this video about sex discrimination in Nepal.

No film artist to represent in the Constituent Assembly 2070

When the Constituent Assembly (CA) membership hopeful film directors Deepak Shrestha and Himgyap Lama couldn’t make it to the CPN (Maoist) list, there will be no film artists to represent in the current CA.

They were included in the preliminary list of CA members under the proportional representation (PR) electoral system. In the similar way, actor Bhuwan KC also couldn’t make it to the list of CPN (UML). Bhuwan has organized a press meet in protest of being rejected twice by the party.

Other film personalities who had tried their luck in the electoral system Uddhav Poudel and Remeshjung Rayamajhi had failed to win enough votes to win the election. Another hopeful, actress Rekha Thapa failed to participate in the election because of her failure to register herself in the voting list.

The only CA member related to Nepali film industry is Rambir Manandhar. Manandhar, the owner of Astha Narayan theater, had won the election under electoral voting system in CPN (UML) seat. Although actor/director Nir Shah might still be hopeful, his chance to be included in the remaining 26 seats in the CA is very slim.

Let's Dare to Dream! The changing face of Kathmandu in next three years

HOW KATHMANDU IS CHANGING OVER NEXT THREE YEARS!

You wouldn’t believe how the face of Kathmandu is changing over next three years, or at least has been proposed to change. Nepal government’s visionary plan of overhauling the capital’s ring road structure has kicked off already and it will be interesting to see fantastic changes in road infrastructure developments of the valley.

Eight lanes with a four-lane carriageway, two-way relief lane, two-way bicycle track and two –way pedestrian path with necessary bus bay, overhead bridge, parking and more; similar to roads of developed international cities in a nutshell.

The first phase of the Kathmandu Ring Road Improvement Project that has started already will work on 9-km Koteshwor-Kalanki stretch of the 27-km Ring Road. You can see the proposed image of the expansion below.

The project involving Chinese contractor Shanghai Construction Group Company and Department of Roads of Nepal Government has been initiated with financial and technical support of the Chinese Government. A model road of 550 meters will be completed by end of this year (Chaitra) around Ekantakuna-Gwarko section. The controversial overhead pedestrian bridge at Kalanki will be demolished and new pedestrian bridges will be constructed at Satdobato, Ekantakuna and Gwarko. An underground tunnel will also be constructed to connect Kalanki and Swayambhu according to the improvement project.

The total project is estimated to cost more than 5 billion Nepali Rupees and will take around three years, according to the Department of Roads. The funds are based on China’s annual grant assistance to Nepal. China has been providing an annual grant assistance of 200 million yuan (Rs 2.6b) to Nepal, raising the amount by one-third of the existing assistance under the technical and economic cooperation after the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao last year.

Kathmandu’s Ringroad was built in 1970s with assistance from Chinese Government itself and it’s indeed good to see the government (chinese) undertaking this visionary improvement project to transform Kathmandu!

Do you think all this proposed plan is possible in next three years? How optimistic are you??

Four trade routes being upgraded to six-lane

KATHMANDU, DEC 10 - The government is upgrading four important trade routes to six-lane to facilitate bilateral trade with India and China.

Out the four routes, upgradation work has already started on Butwal-Belhiya and Rani-Itahari routes, while the work on Surya Binayak-Dhulikhel and Birjung-Pathalaiya sections is yet to begin.

Based on the importance of the routes, the Department of Roads (DoR) had implemented “Trade Route Improvement Project” to upgrade and widen the four selected sections of trade routes to six lanes three years ago.

The four routes play a vital role in the bilateral trade with the neighbouring countries.

Narrow roads , traffic congestions and lack of parking facility have long remained as major problems on these routes, according to traders.

“The widening of the road sections is expected to help make timely delivery of goods allowing easy movement of large trucks and containers,” said Shankar Prasad Pandey, chairman of Trade Committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

He said despite increased traffic, the road infrastructure remained the same for years hindering cross-borders trade.

According to the Doing Business Index 2013 released last month by the World Bank, Nepal has not made any reforms when it comes to cross-border trade. The country slipped to 177th position in the trading across borders indicator in DBI 2013 from 173 earlier. Exporting a standard container requires 11 documents, takes 42 days and costs $2,295 from Nepal, according to the report.

Despite the need for an urgent upgradation, the department has not been able to carry out construction on all four sections at once due to budget constraints.

With the government failing to allocate adequate resources, the department is considering upgrade the 15.4 km Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel section of the Araniko Highway with soft loan from the Japan government. Similarly, a study is being carried out for the improvement of Birgunj-Pathlaiya (28 km) section under the build-own-operate and transfer (BOOT) modality.

“We are studying the feasibility for upgrading the road from Raxual to Pathlaiya under the BOOT system,” said Gopal Prasad Sigdel, chief of the Asset Management, Contract Management and Quality Control Project of the department, which oversees the Trade Route Improvement Project.

He said Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) has been holding a study, expressing interest in providing soft loans to Nepal for the Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel section.

Department officials said Japan as expressed interest in providing the loan at 0.1 percent interest with a 30-year repayment period and 10-year grace period. The Tinkune-Suryabinayak section was also upgraded to six-lane under the Japanese grant assistance.

The Suryabinayak-Dhukhil section is estimated to require around Rs 3 billion, Birgunj-Pathalaiya Rs 5 billion, Butwal-Bhairahawa Rs 2.6 billion and Rani-Itahari Rs 4 billion. The government has planned to take the Rani-Itahari road to Dharan. The officials said the work is expected to complete within the next five-seven years.

The government this fiscal year provided Rs 940 million to the project (all four routes).

Currently, the department is working on a 5-km stretch of the Butwal-Belhiya (24.04 km) route and a 3-km stretch of the Rani-Itahari route.

Sigdel said that they would hire contractors for an additional 6-km stretch of the Butwal-Belhiya section and 5-km stretch of the Rani-Itahari section this year.

According to the department, the contractors will widen the road to six-lane (including a service lane) and also improve junctions by constructing bus stops, installing traffic and road safety measures, including road markings, signs and bridges.

Meanwhile, the government is also improving a 33-km section of the Narayanghat-Mugling road to the Asian Highway standard under a separate project named “Nepal-India Regional Trade and Transport Project”. (-Source: eKantipur.com)

50 Families at Sinkhole Risk, 18 Displaced in Pokhara

Pokhara, November 30th, 2013- With sinkhole formation continuing at Armala VDC in Kaski, 50 families are at risk. Eighteen families have already been displaced after their houses and land started caving in after sinkholes formed near the Majhuwa stream.
Sinkholes formed near the Majhuwa stream at Armala VDC in Kaski district have chilled local residents to the bone
Secretary of the local natural disaster management committee, Dhan Bahadur Karki, said vehicular movement halted after the road in the area started caving in on Saturday.

Efforts to let underground water flow through a canal as per geologists’ advices have appeared to be ineffective. “We dug a three-meter deep canal to let underground water flow.

However, water did not come out as expected. Instead the canal started caving in,” said VDC secretary Ram Chandra Poudel. Geologists Lilanatlh Rimal and Kushalnandan Pokharel had submitted a preliminary report, calling on the authorities to let underground water flow in order to immediately curb the problem.

Meanwhile, Minister for Local Development Bidhyadhar Mallik and Secretary Shanta Bahadur Shrestha on Saturday inspected the affected site. After inspecting the area, Mallik said the sinkhole problem is a matter of grave concern and that he would take initiatives to resolve it. “I will put the matter in the Cabinet and seek an end to it,” he said.

Kaski Chief District Officer Yadav Prasad Koirala said efforts for the management of underground water were going on. (source: eKantipur.com)
