Bhimdutta finally got the censor clearance

After an initial glitch, the Censor Board has finally awarded PG certificate to Nawal Khadka‘s movie ‘Bhimdutta’. The movie directed by Himgyap Lama features Nawal as a revolutionary leader, Bhimdutta Pant of Dadeldhura.

The biographical movie made on a historical context features Nawal Khadka, Nisha Adhikari, and Sumina Ghimire in leading roles. The film makers had organized a protest press meet when the Board took time in awarding the censor clearance certificate.

The Board had asked to remove 12 scenes in the movie before awarding the certificate. The board had asked to remove references to India, some dialogues and some scenes of violence.

Censor Board couldn’t decide on Bhimdutta

The Censor Board has decided to do a detailed review of the movie before letting it screen in theater. The Board chief Umakant Parajuli has told that the involvement of the Army and Indian government in the killing of Bhimdutta has to be researched and verified before the movies is allowed to release.

The board has told that they also have found other issues to research and discuss. The board had also objected violence scenes in the movie. The movie is made on the life of a revolutionary leader of far west Nepal.

In the mean time the director and producers of the movie have posted protesting messages in Facebook. Nawal Khadka’s previous movie ‘Dashgaja’ was also rejected at first and had gone through an extensive scrutiny of the Censor Board.

Censor Board going in wrong direction, to censor movie trailers

We have seen a trend of inserting different scenes and dialogues from the actual movie itself. To make sure that the scenes and dialogues meet the Censor Board requirements, the Board is mulling over the new rules and regulations.

Although we believe, the trailers should be ranked and given a category so that the broadcasters could know if they fit in their targeted audience or not – censoring them is not a solution.

FDB chief Umakanat Parajuli has told that the trailers released before the censor clearance of the movies have created a challenge and credibility of the Board. He is planning to discuss the issue in the Board and tell trailer broadcasting Televisions about the new requirement.

We think the new requirement won’t have any impact because, there is always a work around:
  • Although the Board can control the Television stations operating within Nepal, it won’t have any control over global medias like the ones operating from India and other countries.
  • The board also won’t have any control over the Internet and video hosting sites. That makes the board a joker when trailers release in YouTube and it can do nothing about it.
  • The board might enforce the producers to censor all official trailers. But, there is possibility of the release of ‘unofficial trailers’ or ‘leaked scenes’.

This requirement of the Censor Board will only affect the producers who don’t have any bad intentions. They will only have an additional hurdle without any benefit. But, for those who want to abuse trailer, they will always find a way.

We think, the Censor Board is going in a totally wrong direction. All it should be allowed to do is rank the movies and stop teaching morals to people.

Censor board responds to media pressure, Dhuwani awarded PG certificate (Watch Official Trailer HD)

After the pressure from the media, the Censor Board was forced to change it’s decision on censor certificate to the movie ‘Dhuwani’.  The censor board had objected to a dialogue in the movie citing the dialogue to create problem with the neighboring countries. Now, the Board has allowed the movie to be screened in theaters with PG certificate. The certificate allows children to watch the movie with adults.

After this incident, it is proved that the Board doesn’t have a clear guideline on censoring movies and they act on personal preferences and intuition. This is not the first time such incident had happened. The movie banned by the Board, ‘ATM‘ was released on July 26 without change after the court found it suitable for the public. With these problems, the Board doesn’t hold any credibility to censor movies.

‘Dhuwani’ is releasing on Bhadra 28 and is made on the story of human trafficking in Nepal. A NGO working on the human trafficking, Maiti Nepal, has purchase the rights in Nepal to use the movie in creating awareness of human trafficking in all over Nepal. The movie is directed by Pitambar Pandey and is produced by Kabita Shrestha. The movie features Kishor Khatiwada, Prabin Khatiwada, Dhirenraj Thapa, Anuja Gayak, Sagun Shahi etc. in main roles.

Hot and Sexy Sushma Karki’s Tattoo Controversy

Nepal’s censor board has created a new controversy – the tattoo made on the actress Sushma Karki‘s breast.
Shushma Karki has an image of Sun tattooed on her left breast. She proudly shows off her tattoo whenever the situation permit. When she showed the tattoo in an item dance of an upcoming movie ‘Rajniti’ the censor board has decided that the tattoo resembles the image of Sun on our National Flag. The Board has asked the film makers to remove the portion of the song featuring Sushma’s tattoo.

Reports claim that the Board decision is baseless and contradicts its previous decisions. It’s interesting how the board reacts on the tattoos of other actresses including 5 Tattoo beauties we talked about previously.

Censor Board eyes Shushma Karki’s tattoo on breast

Time again Nepal’s Censor Board is known for acting on the baseless intuition of it’s members. As many of their decision are not based on facts, a protest or judicial decision help them to change their decision. In a latest case, the Board has decided that the tattoo of sun on actress Sushma Karki‘s breast is against patriotic norms.

The decision was made while censoring a movie featuring Sushma in an item dance in her upcoming movie ‘Rajniti’. Although the movie was awarded a PG certificate, the Board has asked the film makers to remove the portions of the movie featuring the actress’ tattoo.sushma karki tattoo

It was not the first time Sushma has shown the tattoo in movies. The posters of her movie ‘Bindaas’ had her featuring the tattoo. But, the Censor Board hadn’t objected on the tattoo at that time.

It is strange to know that the Board is claiming the ownership of an image of a celestial body. Making a tattoo is a personal decision and a human is free to choose what image they want to have on their body. Having a National flag engraved on one’s body is supposed to be patriotic in nature but, the Board official think the opposite.

In my personal opinion, the sun image doesn’t look like the one seen in the flag of Nepal. Even if it were exact copy, that doesn’t mean a Nepali can’t have images on their bodies. These types of decision by the Government body degrade its credibility (if any) further. Some of a few examples of the lack of proper preparation on making decision by the board can be illustrated by the following list:

  • The board had to change it’s decision on ‘Dhuwani’ under media pressure.
  • Supposedly being 80% vulgar ‘Barbad’ was later awarded ‘A’ certificate.
  • Under the pressure of the army ‘Badhshala’ was banned and was later un-banned for no concrete reason.
  • The Board had changed it’s decision on ‘Samaya’ after it’s producer and actress Mausami Malla protested.
  • Banning of the controversial movie ‘ATM‘ was nullified after the court decided to unban the movie.

By the latest move of the Censor Board, it seems, actresses need to censor pass their tattoos before they sign-in a movie!

Yes, such a thing can only happen in Nepal !!
